Bed Bugs....Help!!!!!!
69The Beginning of a Nightmare
It all began in July of 2010. I just happened to see a couple of reddish brown looking bugs crawling around the windows of my bedroom. I thought nothing of it, so I killed them with an old brush I had lying around the house. However, they kept reappearing. I looked around my bed and I saw some tiny brown spots on my mattress and bedsheets. While reading the newspaper and watching the news, I had been hearing some reports of bedbugs being found in theaters and hotels around the country and all the trouble they had been causing.
I did a little more research on the internet and sure enough, I had bedbugs in my home!!! Of course I somewhat panicked because I did not know what to do at that time. I did see all the advertisements for bedbug control from mattress and pillow covers to powder and liquid bedbug sprays. This was somewhat confusing because every advertiser was claiming that their products worked at getting rid of these pests. And a lot of pest control companies were also claiming that their home exterminating remedies worked as well. I tried several things from throwing away a lot of contaminated clothing to washing everything in super hot scalding water. I also had taken the mattresses outside on the backporch and vaccuming whatever bedbugs I could get from around and inside the framing of my bedding. I wiped down the bedding with Lysol and bleach. Guess what? These were only temporary solutions to a never ending problem. My family and I suffered for nights and days on end. Don't let anyone tell you that bedbugs do not come out in the daytime. Wherever they sense blood, there they will be. The constant scratching and itching, the red whelps across my arms and legs and of course, the sleeping with one eye open during the night with the lights on. I do not wish this on anyone!!!!!
I'm not sure how these critters entered my home. My daughter went camping that summer, and I was unsure if she had unknowingly had brought them in. I did not blame her. All I know is that I wanted to get rid of these bugs once and for all!!
Finally, a friend of my husband who worked for a pest control company had told us that we needed to have a thorough extermination of our home. It was hard to believe because I had heard that a lot of these companies were scamming people out of their hard earned money. My husband told me that we had nothing to lose, so we allowed this person to come in and fumigate our home. To my surprise, it worked!!!! The following week, he came in again and repeated the process all over again. After that, we saw very few bedbugs. All I could say was what a relief that we finally could get a peace of mind as well as some rest!!
I would say to anyone, no matter if your home is clean from top to bottom, or even if you are not a neat person, bedbugs have no preference. As long as they can sense a warm blooded person along with easy access, they will get into your home. You can unknowingly bring them into your home by having used furniture, they can crawl onto your clothing, you can sit on a contaminated seating. Your best and only solution to getting rid of these creatures is to get your home thoroughly exterminated by a licensed pest control professional. Be sure to have a follow up treatment to insure that these pest will not re-enter your home ever again.

All those ads on the TV about bedbugs and the news broadcasting about even the nicest hotels having a problem with bedbugs had me freaked out. And having traveled quite a bit in and out of some of these places, I was really worried. I'm always on the lookout for these awful critters. You really have to wonder what useful purpose they really serve here.
My son worked in pest control for awhile, he confirms bed bugs are awfully hard to eradicate. Follow-up is key.
Great hub
While we have never had them and hope that we never do, it is scary to think that they can be picked up in a theatre seat or brought home in one's suitcase from having stayed in a hotel or motel. Glad that you got rid of them and hope that you never get bedbugs again. Useful and interesting hub.

Yikes, what a scary hub, however, growing up we had bedbug. No one ever thought that much of them. I don't even remember panicking when we saw them. We just moved our beds away from the wall, which is where the bugs lived in the day time. I guess these are the new super bugs, I've heard about. Very good and informative hub, marked, useful, and interesting.
